A devastating 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Dingri County in Tibet at an elevation of 15,000 feet, causing significant destruction. The shallow quake, at a depth of 6.2 miles, resulted in 126 fatalities and left 188 people injured. Over 1,000 homes were damaged, compounding the challenges for residents braving freezing temperatures of 5°F (-15°C). The tremor, occurring at 9:00 AM local time, affected the region near Shigatse, home to a population of 640,000. In response, a robust emergency effort was launched, involving 3,400 rescuers, 340 medical workers, and 2,500 Nepal Police officers working tirelessly to provide aid and relief.
